27 -30 July
Lunch at Fitzroy Crossing.
Finger knitting!!
100 km passed Halls Creek to Leycesters Rest/Ord River for a
free camp.
780 kms Huge day. Finished the drive off in the dark having
to dodge roos, wallabies and the odd oxen who decided the road was a good place
to be. Just a reminder as to why we have done our best to avoid driving after
dark. We did get to see our first boab trees today.
Drove 350 kms to Lake Argyle. Stopped for supplies at
Kununurra which exposed the kids to some more of the local Indigenous
population and again sad to see the impact on a culture of alcohol.
Then drove 70 kms to Lake Argyle resort. Stoked to get there
early enough to get a powered site. Went for a swim in the infinity pool which
was fantastic although very cold. The views were stunning.
Then we jumped onto a sunset cruise on the lake which was
fantastic but a bit long for our kids who were getting a bit stir crazy after
about 3 hours. We got to see freshwater crocs, one as big as 3 metres as well
as some euro's and a range of birds. The views of the cliffs and islands were
amazing and the sheer size of this inland waterway, Australia's largest
freshwater lake, was incredible.
The kids all got a drive.
However the highlight of the trip was a quick
dip in the middle of the lake followed by a cool beverage and some biscuits and
cheese while the sun set. The colours were so rich and intense as it reflected
off the water. STUNNING.
Back to the park for a fish and chip dinner in the
restaurant and a listen to a young musician from Wagga who was playing there
for the dry season. The kids had a great time dancing and just playing around.
We were meant to be heading out the next morning but the fish and chips didn't sit well with me and I was pretty sick.
I took a few sunrise pics around the caravan park.
TJ did her best to let me spend the morning trying to catch up on some sleep. They went for a walk and another swim in the pool. I started to feel a bit better in the afternoon so we went back to the pool although I stayed out and watched the kids play.
Early to bed for our last night in WA.
